Mrs. Catherine M. "Cathy" (Schultz) Jackubowski, 76, a resident of the Shavertown section of Kingston Township, passed peacefully into Eternal Life Tuesday morning in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a prolonged illness.
Born on Wednesday, July 9, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the eldest of seven children to the late Lawrence P. and Naomi G. (MacArt) Schultz previously of Larch Lane in Wilkes-Barre's Heights neighborhood.
Educated in the Catholic faith, she was a member of the 1965 graduating class of the former Saint Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Following her formal education, Cathy took employment with the United States Civil Service Commission as a typist. It was around this time that she would meet and eventually marry on July 23, 1971, her soul mate, Raymond Jackubowski; who was serving with the United States Air Force. Together, the couple would realize almost fifty-three years of married life, raising three generations of children.
Due to Ray's military service, the newly-wed couple resided in Germany and later Las Vegas, Nevada before returning to the Wyoming Valley following his honorable discharge.
Locally, Cathy then took employment with the Social Security Administration Office of Hearings and Appeals, retiring from the relocated offices in the Stegmaier Building, Wilkes-Barre.
She and Ray enjoyed traveling while seeing new and exciting destinations both stateside and in Europe.
In her spare time, Cathy loved family vacations to the beach; her seasonal floral gardens and reading. She enjoyed watching a good football game or NASCAR race; but truly enjoyed listening to her favorite artist, Josh Groban live in concert.
Cathy can best be remembered for what she meant to those who will love and miss her most; such as being a wonderful and loving wife, mother, "Nana", sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her father Lawrence on November 20, 1996; by her mother Naomi on February 12, 2004 and most recently by a brother, Lawrence J. "Larry" Schultz on January 11, 2024.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they keep of her in addition to her husband Ray at home, are the couple's sons; Michael R. Jackubowski and his wife Michelle of Dallas and David M. Jackubowski and his wife Jenn of Avoca; Grandchildren, including Arin Waring and her husband Mat, Joshua Jackubowski, Anna Jackubowski, Abigail Jackubowski and Madison Jackubowski; Great-grandson, Thomas Waring; Siblings, Miss Mary Jean Schultz of Kingston; Mrs. Elizabeth "Betsy" Theis and her husband Mark of Mount Pocono; Ms. Joan Marie Hine and her fiancé, Mr. Jeff Lawson of Shavertown; Mr. Kenneth Schultz and his wife Susan of Harding and Mrs. Janet Price and her husband Leonard of Nuangola; Numerous nieces, nephews, several generations of cousins and many dear friends.
Funeral services for Cathy will be conducted Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. from her cousin’s funeral home; the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to gather there for a time of visitation and shared remembrances from 5:00 p.m. until the time of her services.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will be held privately and at the convenience of her family next to her parents in Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Cemetery, Pioneer Avenue, Shavertown.
