Donald Charles Kemmerer

       Mr. Donald Charles Kemmerer, 54, a resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life Sunday evening in the care of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City following a courageous battle with lymphoma.

     Born on January 28, 1963 in the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Don was the son of Mrs. Lorraine S. (Klosko) Kemmerer and the late Mr. Donald Charles Kemmerer Sr., who passed in 2014.

     Educated in the city schools, Don was a member of the 1981 graduating class at E.L. Meyers High School, South Wilkes-Barre.  He furthered his education by attaining an Associate's Degree in Science from College Misericordia in Dallas towards radiologic imagining. He continued work towards becoming certified as an Interventional Radiologic X-Ray Technician.

     Dedicated to his vocation, Don was employed for some thirty years in the radiology department of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.  At General, he served countless patients, and became well known and respected by those he served, their families and especially fellow co-workers.  His presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him and had the privilege of calling him "friend".

     In his spare time, Don was an avid weightlifter and previously served as the weightlifting, football and track & field coach for the E.L. Meyers High School as well as assistant football coach at Holy Redeemer High School.

     He and his wife, the former Cheryl L. Fichtner celebrated thirty-two years of married life together on May 4th of this year.

     In addition to his father, Don was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Theodore and Mary Fichtner.

     Left to mourn his passing in addition to his mom are his beloved wife Cheryl at home, his son and best friend, Erik, also at home and Erik's companion, Keli Shanahan of Plains; his Sister, Cheryl Pollick her husband John and their son Christopher of Larksville; Sisters-in-law, Linda Solt and her children Kierra Gilmore and her husband Keith. Lauren Nee, Jarrod Fichtner, Ryan Solt and Kennady Solt; Mary Beth Mattei her husband Dominick and their son Dominick Jr. ("Cowboy"); Patti Jantz and her husband Thomas and their daughter Brittany; Great nephews Aiden Gilmore and Gavin Nee. Great niece Addison Gilmore;  Aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and co-workers who were his extended family. He will also be missed by his three beloved pets "Meow Meow, Peppa Pig and George".

     Funeral services for Don will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street.  The Reverend Mr. William Behm, permanent deacon and Parish Life Coordinator of Saint Andrew's Parish, Wilkes-Barre will serve as celebrant.

     Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Albert Cemetery, Mountain Top.

     Relatives and friends may join Don's family for visitation and remembrances Friday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  If desired, please come wearing a jersey or dressed in the colors of your favorite team to honor Don's love of sports.
