     Mr. Robert W. "Bobby" Shurmanek, 87, a resident of the North End Section of the City, passed into Eternal Life unexpectedly Sunday evening at the family residence.

     Born August 29, 1930 in Hobbie, he was a son to the late Anthony and Anna (Kostelnik) Shurmanek.  Educated in the city schools, he was a member of the 1948 graduating class of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

     Following his formal education, Mr. Shurmanek proudly served our country with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant upon the time of his Honorable Discharge from duties on October 21, 1952.

     Until his retirement, Mr. Shurmanek was employed for many years by the Proctor and Gamble Corporation in Mehoopany as a quality control specialist.

     He was a member of Saint Andre Bessette Parish Community, North Wilkes-Barre and held membership in the National Rife Association, the American Trap Association and the Harvey's Lake Rod & Gun Club, Inc.

     Remembered as a loving husband and father, Mr. Shurmanek was a man of faith and principle who placed the utmost value on his God, family and country.

     He and his wife, the former Anne M. Ivan celebrated sixty-five years of married life together on May 3rd of last year.

     He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Ann Furman, Helen Sott, Joseph, John, most recently, Richard Shurmanek and by his only granddaughter, Jonelle Spencer in 1980.

     Left to mourn his passing in addition to his beloved wife Anne at home, are the couple's children Sharon A. Spencer and her husband William of Noxen and Jim Shurmanek and his wife Maureen of Sweet Valley.  Grandsons, including Shaun Spencer and his wife Rhonda, Derek Shurmanek and his fiancee, Caitlin Libby and Brian Shurmanek and his wife Brittani.  Great-Grandsons, Kyle and Caleb Spencer;  Brother Anthony Shurmanek and his wife Lorraine, North Wilkes-Barre; Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, wonderful neighbors and dear friends.

      Funeral services for Mr. Shurmanek will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial Funeral Mass in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor will serve as celebrant and homilist.

     Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the Shurmanek family.

     Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Shurmanek and her family for visitation and remembrances Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass directly at church.
