Mary Slavinski Obituary

Mrs. Mary Ann (Flynn) Slavinski, 86, a resident of Wilkes-Barre's Parsons neighborhood, passed into Eternal Life Friday evening in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on Friday, April 23, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last surviving of five children born to the late George and Margaret (Dooley) Flynn.

Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Slavinski was a member of the 1954 graduating class of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Devoted to her Catholic faith, Mrs. Slavinski previously held membership in the former Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre, where she served as a lector; an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and was a member of the parish faith sharing group.

Until her retirement, she was employed by Commonwealth Health as a receptionist in the x-ray department of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.  Previously, she was employed with the Wilkes-Barre Data Operations Center of the Social Security Administration.

Above all else, Mary Ann is remembered as being a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her adoring family who will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Theodore Slavinski on August 2, 2002.  At the time of Mr. Slavinki's passing, the couple shared 49 years of married life together.  Also preceding her were sisters, Mrs. Margaret Sienkiewicz and Mrs. Theresa Headman as well as brothers, Mr. George Flynn and Mr. Joseph Flynn.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ann Marie Winters of North Wilkes-Barre; Grandchildren, John I. Winters Jr. and his companion, Amanda Hules of Edwardsville and Theodore E. Winters of North Wilkes-Barre; Great-grandchildren, Koda I. and Ivan I. Winters; Sister-in-law, Mrs. Theresa Flynn of Wyoming; Brother-in-law; Mr. John Headman of Dallas; several nieces, nephews and her beloved poodle, "April".
