Mrs. Mary R. (Kennedy) Mulvey, 89, a resident of the North End section of the city, entered into Eternal Life Wednesday afternoon in the care of Celtic Healthcare Hospice at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre following a brief illness.

Born May 21, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Mundy) Kennedy.  Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Mulvey was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre and later furthered her education by graduating from the former Saint Mary's School of Nursing in Scranton.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Mulvey was employed as a registered nurse with the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for many years.  Before that, she proudly served her country with the United States Air Force as a nurse being stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota, earning the rank of First Lieutenant at the time of her Honorable Discharge from duties.

Mrs. Mulvey kept active in her retirement, volunteering with the local chapter of the Meals on Wheels program for the homebound.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James P. Mulvey in 1991.  At the time of his passing, the couple shared  thirty-six years of married life together.  Preceding her also were her sisters, Elizabeth and Nancy Kennedy; a brother, Anthony Kennedy and most recently her dear lifelong friend and fellow nursing classmate, Josephine Alfano, who passed on June 28th of this year.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, Anthony F. Mulvey at home, John Mulvey of Parsons, James P. Mulvey of Plains and Elizabeth Rogers and her husband Barry of Kingston. Her grandchildren, Matt Rogers and his wife Shellien, of Nashville, TN; Eric Rogers and his fiancée Megan Mooney of West Wyoming, and Elissa Mulvey of Plains.  Mrs. Mulvey also had three great-grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth, Harper and Dylan.  She is also survived by her brothers,  Mr. Joseph P. Kennedy and his wife Alma and Mr. Francis Kennedy, all of St. Paul, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.  Affectionately called “Ma Mulvey” by family and friends, she will be missed by all.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mulvey will be conducted on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street.  The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor will serve as celebrant and homilist.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.

Relatives and friends may join the Mulvey family Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home for visitation and remembrances.

In lieu of floral tributes, Mary’s family would be honored if those contemplating a memorial contribution in her memory kindly consider a donation to The Salvation Army, 111-257 South Wilkes-Barre Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
