Mr. Peter Joseph Perno, 91, a resident of the Korn Krest section of Hanover Township, passed into Eternal Life early Wednesday morning in the intensive care unit of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following an illness.  He joined his loving wife, Mildred Ann (Matyas) Perno as he entered the Golden Gates of Heaven.

Born April 14, 1926 in Glen Lyon, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Natalini) Perno.

A veteran of the Second World War, his education was cut short to proudly serve our country with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre.  He earned the rank of Gunner's Mate upon the time of his Honorable Discharge on September 28, 1945.

He was a member of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre and held membership in the Goodwill Hose Company.

Until his retirement, Mr. Perno was employed as a truck driver for the Ostrander Steel Company of Pringle.  Previously, he worked with the former Biscontini Enterprises of Newport Township.

Mr. Perno was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Ludmilla (Mildred) Anna Matyas on March 5, 2009.  At the time of her passing, the couple shared 62 years of married life together.  He was also preceded by his sister, Mrs. Louise Selli, his brother-in-law, Mr. Guido Selli and his nephews, Mr. Peter Selli and Mr. Kenneth Hughes.

Left to mourn his passing are his children, Mrs. Mildred Ann Perno Luba and her husband Leonard of Hanover Township, Ms. Yolanda Jean Perno Humphrey of Dallas, her fiancee, Mr. Richard Pendolphia and Mr. Peter Michael Perno, at home.  Grandchildren, including Leonard Peter Luba, Robert Michael Humphrey, Jeanette Elizabeth Elbattah-Humphrey, Jonathan Peter Humphrey and Peter Joseph Perno.  Great-Grandchildren, Christian Luba, Cayla Luba; Giovanni, Roman, Deano and Maximus Elbattah;  Isabella, Luciana and Anthony Humphrey, Julia and Logan Humphrey;  Several nieces and nephews including Ruth Sorber, neighbors and dear friends.

Peter's family would like to extend sincere thanks to all in the staffs of both the telemetry and intensive care units of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Dr. Ellis, Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Galasso, Dr. DeSai and their staffs for the excellent care their father received.  "Dad appreciated you all over the years for your wonderful care that enabled him to realize 91 years of life…God Bless You All".

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 663 North Main Street.  The Reverend Peter D. Haenftling, pastor, will serve as celebrant.

Interment with rite of committal will follow in Hanover Cemetery, Main Road, Hanover Green section of Hanover Township.
