Shirley Weitz Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Ann (Lynn) Weitz, 79, a resident of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life unexpectedly late Monday evening in the care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, shortly after admission.

Born in Pittston on April 4, 1939, she was a daughter to the late William and Mary Lynn.  Educated in the Pittston schools, she was a member of the 1956 graduating class of the former Pittston High School.

Following her education, Mrs. Weitz took employment in the valley's former cigar factories, later working as a switchboard operator for the former Bell Telephone of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre.

Until her retirement, she was employed as a waitress in various local restaurants, most notably working for the original Mount Airy Lodge in Mount Pocono.

She previously attended Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, William Street, Pittston.

In her spare time, she could be seen taking the bus to Enterprise Bingo in Hanover Township along with several of her fellow bingo enthusiasts over the years.

She is remembered as being a caring loving mother and grandmother to her adoring family who was always proud of her Irish heritage.  She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Shirley Ann was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mary Wagner and by brothers Mr. William and Mr. Robert Lynn.

Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her husband, Robert of Wilkes-Barre; Children Robert Allen Weitz Jr. and Norma Jean Weitz, both at home  Granddaughter, Jean Marie Weitz; Niece, Diana Morahan; Nephew, Robert William Lynn, and several dear friends.

Following Shirley Ann's previous requests, her funeral services will be private and at the convenience of her family.  There will be no formal visitation period.

The North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street is honored to care for our neighbor and her family at this time.
