Mrs. Sophie J. (Kormos) Albert, a woman proud to achieve 90 years, formerly of the North End section of the city, fell asleep in the Lord late Tuesday evening in the care of Riverstreet Manor, where she had resided for the past week.
Born January 6, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last of ten children to the late Michael and Agapia (Kormos) Borsos. Educated in the city schools, she attended the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Mrs. Albert was a lifelong member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Main Street.
Until her retirement, she was employed in the valley's garment industry as a sewing machine operator for the former Central Slipper Company.
Sophie is remembered as being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wonderful neighbor to those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. George J. Albert on July 19, 1985, and by brothers and sisters including Michael Kormos, Frank Kormos, Charlie Kormos (who was killed during the Second World War), John Kormos, Mary Reese, Ann McGowan, Helen Wudmaska, Betty Soley and Margaret Bobick.
Left to mourn her passing are her children and their families; Stanley Lazarski, his wife Monica of Nanticoke, their daughters Melissa & Joanne; James Lazarski, his wife Jean Marie of Newark, DE, their children Jimmy, Kevin and Tammy; Deborah M. Milz, her husband William of South Wilkes-Barre and their children Leah and William; Ten great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services with Panachida will be conducted on Monday at 11:30 a.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street. The Reverend Michael Kerestes, her pastor will serve as celebrant and the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great as cantors.
Interment with Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Albert's family for visitation and remembrances Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
