     Mrs. Valeria Rose  "Val" (Levandowski) Snitko, 90, of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully into Eternal Life early Monday morning in the care of the Little Flower Manor, where she recently resided surrounded by her loving family.

     Born on November 8, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late John Vincent and Rose Victoria (Ostraszewski) Levandowski.

     Educated in the city schools, she was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

     Following her education, Mrs. Snitko worked for many years as a seamstress in our area's local garment industry.

     Mrs. Snitko was an active member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre, having previously been a life member of the former Saint Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church prior to its closure.  She previously was a member of the parish choir for 50 years, and assisted with various functions held annually at church.  She was also one of the founding members of the Young at Heart Club and the Ladies' Social Club at church.

     She was the President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brookside American Legion, Post #837 in North Wilkes-Barre and held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.  In her spare time, she was wonderful in working with plastic canvas crafts.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John A. Sniko Sr. on November 30, 2005.  At the time of his passing, the couple shared fifty years of married life together.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Mr. Mark D. Sniko on April 22, 2008; by a great-grandson, David Joseph Snitko on December 2, 2010; by sisters, Leona Elick and Lillian Dombroski, and by a brother, Joseph Levandowski.

     Left to mourn her passing are her son, John A. Snitko Jr., at home; Grandchildren, Mark D. Snitko Jr. and his wife Shauna of Milford, MA; Amanda A. Snitko and her companion Eric Lias-Lewis of Hanover Township; Great-grandchildren Rachael Anne and Marissa Snitko; Brother, John Levandowski and his wife Regina of Parsons; Sister Theresa Wincek and her husband Joseph of Plains Township; Numerous nieces, nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

     Funeral services for Mrs. Snitko will be conducted on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 North Main Street, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street.  The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, her pastor, will serve as celebrant. 

     Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Cemetery of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, Cemetery and Blanchard Streets, Plains Township.

     Relatives and friends may join the Snitko family for visitation and remembrances Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.at the funeral home.
