It is with sadness we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Mrs. Anna May A. (Greeley) Hirko, 88, formerly of Sunrise Drive in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life peacefully early the morning of Thursday, March 12, 2026, while in the care of Edenbrook at Hampton Skilled Nursing Center of Hanover Township following a recent illness.
Born on Friday, July 16, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of four children to the late Domero and Anna (Timek) Greeley.
She began her parochial education at the former Saint John the Evangelist School, later becoming a 1955 graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School. Mrs. Hirko furthered her education by attending the Luzerne County Community College, and attaining an associate’s degree in business management from then Wilkes College with a focus in accounting.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Hirko held various positions in the Wyoming Valley, including the Social Services Department of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes University; and most recently she served as the administrative assistant to the chief executive officer and the chief operating officer of the Earth Conservancy in Ashley.
Devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, Mrs. Hirko held membership in Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Plains. Previously she served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion at the former Saint Andre Bessette Parish of North Wilkes-Barre.
In her spare time, Anna May was an avid gardener and amateur photographer. She enjoyed reading about history and shared her skills in afghan making and quilting by teaching classes at Boscov’s.
She is best remembered as being a loving wife, nurturing mother and beloved sister to her family who will miss her presence in their lives. May she now rest in the peace of Christ.
Mrs. Hirko was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Thomas P. Hirko on December 1, 1990. At the time of his passing, the couple shared twenty-nine years of married life together.
She also bid farewell to an infant son, Matthew; brother and sister-in-law, Attorney Donald and Mrs. Joan Greeley, R.N. and a nephew, Mr. David Greeley.
