Betty (Gomba) Berecin

     Mrs. Betty (Gomba) Berecin, 83, a resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed peacefully into Eternal Life Friday morning, October 7th in the comfort of her residence with her family at her bedside following a recent illness.

     Born on Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the only child to the late Frank and Elizabeth Gomba. 

     Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Berecin was a member of the 1956 graduating class of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

     Raised in the Catholic faith, she was a member of the former Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre until its recent closure.

     She was well-known for keeping and maintaining a meticulous, orderly home.  She took pride in her homemaking abilities; a trait she carried to her final days.  In her spare time, Betty was a generous and kind soul who took pleasure in donating to several worthy charitable organizations.

     Above all else, she is remembered as being a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family.  Her physical presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

     She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Michael B. Berecin who passed on July 21, 2004.  At the time of Mr. Berecin's passing, the couple shared 45 years of married life together.

     Left to cherish her memory are the couple's son, Mr. Michael B. Berecin and his wife Toni of Miners Mills; Granddaughters Ashley Popovich and her husband Justin and Alexa Berecin;  Great-grandchildren Ava and Kendall Popovich; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     Services for Mrs. Berecin will be conducted 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, October 11 at the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, pastor of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre, will serve as celebrant and leader of worship.

     Inurnment will be held privately next to her husband in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas at the convenience of her family.

     Relatives and friends may join the Berecin family for visitation and shared remembrances Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until the time of services.
