Obituary

       Mr. Carl Leo Ott Jr., 83, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 in the comfort of his residence in Erlanger, Kentucky.  Born Friday, January 21, 1938 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of four children to the late Carl Leo Sr. and Bessie (McGowan) Ott.

     Educated in the city schools, he was a 1955 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, where he excelled as an athlete; playing football as the team quarterback.  He also participated in baseball and wrestling.  He was awarded many scholarships, but unfortunately, suffered a back injury his senior year.  He furthered his education by attending King’s College for three years before serving in the United States Marine Corps, where he would also play football as a quarterback.

     Until his retirement, Carl was employed as a manager with U.S. Airways for thirty-five years.  Devoted to his Catholic faith, he was a lifelong member of the Church of Saint Nicholas, Wilkes-Barre, and was a parishioner of Saint Henry Roman Catholic Church in Erlanger, Kentucky since 1974.

     He is remembered as being a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all those who knew and loved him.  He and his wife, Philomena (Oleniak) Ott, celebrated fifty-eight years of married life together.

     He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Rosemary P. Minarik on May 14, 2007 and by a nephew, Dr. John Paul Kebles Jr. on December 2, 1997.

     Left to cherish his memory in addition to his beloved wife Philomena at home, are the couple’s children, Theresa Ott Gable and her husband Mark; Carl Leo Ott III and his wife Caroline and Kathleen Ott McNeil and her husband Patrick; 

Grandchildren, including Mackenzie (Jacob); Charles, Michaela, Coleman, Moria, Connor and Emma;  Sister, Mrs. Henrietta Kebles and her husband John of Shavertown; Brother Mr. William Ott and his wife Suzanne of North Wilkes-Barre and their families; former colleagues, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

     Funeral services for Mr. Ott will be conducted on Friday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Henry Roman Catholic Church, Elsmere, Kentucky.  Entombment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.
