Carolyn Vodzak Obituary

Carolyn J. Vodzak, 87, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into eternal life Sunday, March 5, 2023, while in the care of Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plains Twp.

Born June 9, 1935, in Broadway, she was one of eight children of the late Clyde and Nellie Long Edwards. She graduated from Huntington Mills High School.

Carolyn was employed for 15 years as a sales associate at JCPenney.

Devoted to her Catholic faith, Mrs. Vodzak previously attended Mass at the former St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church, Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre.

Carolyn was very involved in her children's lives when they were growing up. She was involved in the PTA at Calvin Elementary School and attended her children's many school activities and sporting events.

Carolyn was an avid baker and crafter in her earlier years and in recent years found joy in reading, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John L. Vodzak Sr., in 2019; and granddaughter, Emma Vodzak.

Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her children, John Vodzak Jr., and his wife, Ann, Youngsville, N.C.; Barbara Sharry and her husband, Michael, Wilkes-Barre; Lisa Vodzak and her companion, John Martin, Plymouth; Marie Gitomer and her husband, Stuart, Nanticoke; Robert Vodzak and his wife, Cindy, Mechanicsburg; James Vodzak and his wife, Mary, Bear Creek Twp.; David Vodzak, Nanticoke; Elaine Vodzak and her companion, Thomas Young, Shavertown; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Yinger (Mark), Laura Kobak (Steve), Amanda Sharry-Rogers (Len), Sarah Nunez (Diego), Rebecca Norby (Brian), Christopher Sharry, Hunter Vodzak, Nicholas Vodzak, Tyler Vodzak, Emily Vodzak and Jonathon Gitomer; nine great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Gitomer, Brandon and Aubrey Rogers, Logan and Conrad Kobak, Viviana and Victor Nunez and Alexander and Zachary Norby; several brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from John V. Morris Family Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery of St. Andre Bessette Parrish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas. Relatives and friends may join the Vodzak family for visitation and remembrance from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in Carolyn's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
