Mrs. Christine M. (Panzarella) Romanelli, 88, a resident of Wyoming, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Heights and Hazleton, passed peacefully into eternal life Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 the eve of Ascension Thursday while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, following a prolonged illness.
Born on Saturday, September 21, 1935 in Lattimer Mines, she was one of seven children to the late Louis and Christine (Marcusky) Panzarella. Educated in the Hazleton area schools, Mrs. Romanelli was a member of the 1953 graduating class of the former Hazle Township High School.
She would later meet and eventually marry her beloved husband, Mr. Carl J. Romanelli on May 12, 1956. The couple relocated to the Wyoming Valley where they began raising their own family. Mr. Romanelli would later become a well known and respected newspaper journalist for the Citizens' Voice who authored books of local notariety regarding the devastation of Hurricane Agnes and the infamous Times Leader labor strike.
Mrs. Romanelli held membership in Saint Nicholas/Saint Mary Parish at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, downtown Wilkes-Barre.
She is best remembered as being a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family. A wonderful sister, aunt and friend, her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Carl J. Romanelli on June 13, 2003. At the time of Mr. Romanelli's passing, the couple shared forty-seven years of married life together. Also preceeding her were a brother, Mr. Genare Panzarella and a sister, Mrs. Jean Conroy.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold of her are her children, Candida and Alice Romanelli, both at home; Carl J. and Thomas L. Romanelli, both of Wyoming; Louis C. Romanelli and his wife Deborah of Exeter; Ronald Romanelli and his wife Judith of Wilkes-Barre and Christopher Romanelli along with his wife Lisa of Hanover Township; Grandchildren, including Mario and Jordan; Thomas Jr., James Carl and Santino; Marina, Gabriella, Gianna, Veronica and Dominic; Christopher Jr. and Carly; Great-Grandchildren, Lilliana Romanelli, Gionni and Evangelina Easter.
Brother, Mr. Thomas Panzarella and his spouse; Sisters, Mrs. Leora Roots of Gilbert, AZ; Mrs. Patricia Gorney of Clarks Summit; Mrs. Alice DeManicor of West Hazleton; Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Romanelli were held privately and at the convenience of her family with her funeral Mass in Saint Nicholas/Saint Mary Parish at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 134 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment followed with the Rite of Committal next to her husband in Saint Mary Diocesan Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
Per Mrs. Romanelli's previous request, there were no formal visitation hours.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations in Mrs. Romanelli's memory are appreciated for the charity of the donor's choosing.
The Romanelli would like to gratefully acknowledge Dr. John M. Prater, the staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and Commonwealth Home Health nurses for the wonderful care and compassion shown to their mother especially in her final days.
