Mrs. Dolores Delphina (Siso) Evans, 97, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, fell asleep in the Lord Thanksgiving Day with her family at her side.
She passed in the comfort of her daughter and son-in-law's home in Shavertown.
Born on Thursday, May 26, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the eldest and last surviving of four children to the late Manuel and Mary (Chupa) Siso. Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Evans was a graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1945.
Until her retirement, she had been employed in the valley's former garment industry as a seamstress for Darlan's Apparel previously on Darling Street, North Wilkes-Barre.
Devoted to her Byzantine Catholic faith, she held membership in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre. She was an active member of the parish, often seen pinching pierogies, rolling halupki and cutting various vegetables for the parish bazaars right up to the age of 90. She took pride in attending all of the funerals at the church, handing out the Divine Liturgy booklets to attendees as they entered the building. Also she previously was a member of Saint Mary's Mother's Club and the Saint Nicholas Apostolate at the church. Mrs. Evans held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and served as Chaplain of the Brookside American Legion Post #837 Ladies Auxiliary.
Above all else, her family was her pride and joy in this life. She served as the family matriarch both in her youth and as an adult. Having a heart of gold, she was a selfless woman who took pleasure in doing for others. Being the mother of six, she was a strong woman who lovingly and single-handedly raised her children during the week while her late husband sought work out of the area to support his family. She instilled a good work ethic in her family saying "Do the best you can in life, and you will be successful". When her children were young, she taught them to be creative and inventive with what they had as money was often tight. Despite some difficult times, she would lovingly say "We're the richest family on the block because we have each other’s love." She truly was an amazing woman who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul M. Evans on April 19, 1998; by sisters, Christine Adamczyk and Nancy Bosetti; brother Manuel Siso Jr. and a grandson, Matthew Swiderski.
Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of her are her children Paul Evans and his wife Bridget; Manuel Evans and his wife Elaine; Dolores Swiderski and her husband Ken; Linda Gruner and her husband Bob; Michael Evans and his wife Linda and David Evans along with his wife Windy. Her adoring grandchildren, including Chris Evans, Shelley Cangialosi and her husband Rocco; Kristen Danner and her husband Ryan; Alicia Evans; Joshua Evans and his wife Kirstin; Jenny and her husband Bob Yonick; Ashley, Paige and Amber Evans; Casey Evans and her husband Stephen Bost; and Ben Evans; Her great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Hunter Evans, Matteo and Luca Cangialosi; Liam and Isla Danner and Eliza Yonick; Brother-in-law, Mr. Richard Bosetti; many nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Very Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist; assisted by Professor Raymond J. Mastroberte as cantor. Live stream of Divine Liturgy can be found by visiting the parish Facebook page.
Interment will be next to her husband in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas where the Rite of Committal will be conferred by Father Michael.

Mom you are in heaven
We know you watch over us each day
We will carry on what you’ve taught us
To be kind, and yes to pray
We miss you so much already
We carry in our heart
The love you’ve always shown us
And with this we will never part
