Mrs. Doris J. (Gaidish) Sedon, 96, most well known as "Nana"; formerly of West Union Street, Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord early Saturday morning in the home of her daughter Suzanna, Miners Mills, with whom she recently resided, following an illness.
Born on Wednesday, June 10, 1925 in Honeybrook, lower Luzerne County, she was one of two children to the late Michael and Mary (Burtosky) Gaidish. Educated in the Hazleton schools, she was a graduate of the Hazleton High School.
Until her retirement to focus on raising her family, Mrs. Sedon previously worked in the region's garment industry as a sewing machine operator for the Stalmar Garment Company.
Mrs. Sedon was a member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre, where she previously was active in assisting at parish dinners and the annual parish festivals. Professionally, she held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
In her spare time, Nana loved crocheting and sharing her creations with family and friends. Above all else, she is remembered for her love of family. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her children. Her physical presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.
Mrs. Sedon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Sedon Jr. on October 11, 1999 in a tragic fall at Hollenback Cemetery, where he served as superintendent. Also preceding her were a grandson, Brian Sedon; sons-in-law, Jerome Dunn and Thomas Matchko; a brother, Paul Gaidish; and most recently by a son, Paul Sedon on December 29, 2017.
Left to cherish her memory are her children John and wife Ann Marie Sedon of Hudson; Michael and wife Marsha of Bear Creek Township; Joseph and Wife Cynthia of Wilkes-Barre; Stephan and wife Suzanne of Wilkes-Barre; Susanna Dunn, with whom she resided, Miners Mills; Ann Marie Matchko of Las Vegas, NV; Daughter-in-Law, Carol A. Sedon of Mountain Top; Nineteen grandchildren; Seventeen Great-Grandchildren; Nieces, Nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sedon will be conducted on Wednesday with Panachida at 9:30 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may join the Sedon family for visitation and shared remembrances Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations would be greatly appreciated in Mrs. Sedon's memory to Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.
