Dorothy Jones Obituary

     Mrs. Dorothy M. (Lendacky) Jones, 93, formerly of the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life peacefully late Monday just before midnight while in the care of the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility of Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, where she resided for the past three years.

     Born Christmastime, December 23, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last of nine children to the late Jacob and Rose (Kandrach) Lendacky.  Educated in the city schools, she was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

     Following her formal education, Mrs. Jones was employed in the valley's garment industry for the former Eastern Sportswear Company of North Wilkes-Barre for some forty years.  While with Eastern, she worked in every one of the local factories the company owned; performing practically every task possible within her trade.  She was one of the most dependable workers the Shoneholtz family employed, never missing a day's work in practically thirty-eight years of employment.

     Mrs. Jones was a previous life member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre prior to its closure.  While living in the Heights, she prided herself for being a daily communicant at the former Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church for some thirty-eight years continually, following her retirement.

     Currently, she held membership in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre and professionally, held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers' Union.

     Despite having no children of her own, Dorothy is remembered as being a loving, devoted wife and aunt to her adoring family whose presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

     She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Harry R. Jones on June 30, 1992; by brothers and sisters including; Mr. Andrew Lendacky, 1963; Mr. John Lendacky, 1983; Mr. William Lendacky, 1993;  Mrs. Verne Gelatko, 2004; Mr. Frank B. Lendacky, 2005; Mr. Albert C. Lendacky, 2006; Mrs. Mary Rose Kushner ,2007 and most recently by a brother, Mr. Joseph M. Lendacky in 2009;

     Left to cherish the memories they hold of her are numerous nieces and nephews including her caregivers; her goddaughter, Mrs. Loree A. Gerich and her husband John of Plains Township; fellow parishioners and dear friends.

     The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the nurses, aides, physical and occupational therapists at Wesley Village for the loving and compassionate care shown Dorothy especially during the current pandemic.

     Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be conducted on Friday with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.

     Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband in Oaklawn Cemetery, 1250 South Main Street, Hanover Township.

     Those wishing to attend Dorothy's service are kindly asked to assemble directly at church Friday morning by 10:45 a.m.  Due to the restrictions brought about the current health crisis, those in attendance will be required to wear facial masks, while observing social distancing guidelines for the protection of all participants.

     In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in Mrs. Jones' memory are humbly requested to the Social Justice Committee of Saint Andre Bessette Parish, 668 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.
