Edna Wade Obituary

     Early the morning of Friday, March 7th, 2025, Mrs. Edna Virginia (Moore) Wade, 93, a resident of Wilkes-Barre was called Home by her Savior into Glory while in the care of the Edenbrook Hampton Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hanover Township surrounded by her loving family.

     Born on Wednesday, September 16, 1931 in Wilmington, Delaware; she was a daughter to the late Walter and Viola (Harman) Moore.

     Prior to the family's relocation to the Wyoming Valley in her youth, Mrs. Wade was educated in and graduated high school from the George Washington Carver High School, Elkton, Maryland.  She would later further her education by taking courses at Princess Anne College, Princess Anne, Maryland and the Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke.

     Devoted to her Christian faith, Mrs. Wade was a former member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church on Hill Street in Wilkes-Barre.  It was here she previously sang in the Senior Bell Williams choir as her late husband, Mr. Jesse Wade Jr., a well known and respected musician, served as the music minister and organist.

     Having been blessed with ten children and several generations to follow, Mother Wade was the consummate homemaker.  She became quite skilled in cooking and sewing for her family. 

     Having an artistic gift of the written word, she was an accomplished poetry writer and was previously an active member of a local poetry workshop in the area.

     She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Jesse Wade Jr. on August 25, 2016.  At the time of Mr. Wade's passing, the couple shared sixty-six years of married life together.  Over the years she also bid farewell to her step-mother, Ms. Marie Gleaves; several brothers and sisters; three children, including Mr. Jesse Wade III; Mrs. Darnel Palmer; son-in-law, Mr. Anthony Dawkins; and most recently Mr. Ellery Lamont Wade on August 24, 2017.

     Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they now keep of their mother are sons; Malachi Wade and his wife Peggy; Norman Wade and his wife Susan; and Jeffrey Wade; daughters, Rosalyn Wade; Cynthia Wade; Elvira Wade and Doreese Wade, all of Wilkes-Barre; Numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, fellow congregation members and dear friends.

     Funeral services for Mother Wade will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. from the First Assembly of God Church, 424 Stanton Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Her grandson, Minister Norman Matthew Wade will serve as celebrant and leader of worship. 

     Relatives and friends may join the Wade family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.

     Interment will be next to her husband in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
