Eleanor Ivan Obituary

Mrs. Eleanor M. (Fabian) Ivan, 93, formerly of Kingston, passed peacefully into Eternal Life Wednesday morning at home in Bethlehem.

Born on Tuesday, September 24, 1929 in Larksville, she was one of three children to the late Frank Emery and Mary Irene (Ridzon) Fabian.  Educated in the Plymouth schools, she was a 1947 graduate of the former Plymouth High School.

Following her formal education, Mrs. Ivan was employed for several years by the valley's garment industry for the Leslie Fay Company.

Until her retirement at the age of 85, Mrs. Ivan served as a dental assistant and receptionist for John J. Handley, D.D.S. of Forty-Fort for some forty-three years.

Fraternally, she held membership in the Slovak Catholic Sokols and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Above all else, Eleanor is best remembered as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt to her beloved family.  Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Francis J. Ivan in 1969.  At the time of his passing, the couple shared just sixteen years of married life together.  Also preceding her were her brother, Mr. Frank G. Fabian and her step-mother, Mrs. Ceil Fabian.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marilyn E. Coughlin and her husband Thomas of Bethlehem, with whom she recently resided; Mark Ivan and his wife Sandy of Longmont, CO; Four Grandchildren; Five Great-Grandchildren; Brother, Jerome "Jerry" Fabian and his wife Carol of Shavertown; Sister-in-law, Maude Fabian of Plymouth; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ivan will be conducted on Tuesday, December 6th with her memorial funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in All Saints Parish, 66 Willow Street, Plymouth.  The Reverend Gerald J. Gurka, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.

Inurnment will follow in the family lot of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Ivan's family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of floral tributes, Eleanor’s family would be humbled if those wishing to send a monetary donation in their mother’s memory, kindly give consideration to Saint Luke’s Home Hospice, 240 Union Station Plaza, Bethlehem, PA 18015.

The John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., of Wilkes-Barre is honored to care for Mrs. Ivan and her family locally at this time.
