Mrs. Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Milewski-Miller) Pohorilak, 90, a resident of Plains Township, formerly of Wyoming Street, North Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord early the morning of Monday, July 1st while in the care of Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre, following a recent illness.
Born on Tuesday, April 17, 1934 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of thirteen children and four step-children to the late Anthony and Mary (Kozalewski) Milewski-Miller. She was educated in the Wilkes-Barre schools.
Betty enjoyed varied career experiences which allowed her to make many friends along life's journey. Prior to her formal retirement, she was employed in food service by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District in the Heights-Murray Elementary School for some ten years.
Mrs. Pohorilak and her late husband were well known and faithful members of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre for many years.
She is remembered as being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her adoring family. Her presence will be missed by all those she touched in this life. May her memory be Eternal in Our Lord!
Betty now joins in God's kingdom, her beloved husband, Mr. George B. Pohorilak who passed on May 6, 2009. At the time of Mr. Pohorilak's passing, the couple shared fifty years of married life together. Also preceding her were brothers; Ben, Leonard, Albert, Edward and sisters; Pauline, Frances, Genevieve, Edna, Mary, Irene and Stella.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they keep of her are her loving daughter, Mrs. Georgeann "Gigi" Frey and her husband, the Reverend Deacon Edward Frey of Trucksville; Grandsons, Nicholas Frey of Seattle, WA and Matthew Frey of Salt Lake City, UT; Brother, Mr. John Miller of Wescosville, PA; Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, former neighbors and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pohorilak will be conducted on Sunday afternoon with a concelebrated Parastas service at 3:00 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor of Saint Mary's along with Mrs. Pohorilak's son-in-law, Deacon Edward Frey will serve as celebrants.
Relatives and friends may join Gigi and her family for a time of visitation and shared remembrances at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will be held on Monday, July 8th at 10:45 in the chapel of the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.
Those wishing to attend are respectfully asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:30 a.m.
