Eugenia Jenkins Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of a beautiful, kind soul whose memory will now live in the hearts of all those she touched in this life.

Mrs. Eugenia (Soyer) Jenkins, 88, best known as "Cookie" to her family and friends, was gently called home, her soul wrapped in grace and eternal love. Surrounded by the comforting presence of her daughter Karen and granddaughter Brittany, she departed this world not in solitude, but in the warmth of family and the promise of everlasting life. In that sacred moment, Heaven drew near, and God welcomed her with open arms. Though hearts here feel the weight of her absence, there is a solace in knowing she now rests in divine peace, free from pain, and forever held in the light of His glory.

Born on Friday, December 17, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last of nine children to the late George and Pauline (Gazda) Soyer.

Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Jenkins attended the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

In her youth and to help support her family, Cookie was employed in the area's local garment industry as a seamstress for Gort's Manufacturing.

Dedicated to her Eastern Catholic faith, Mrs. Jenkins held membership in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in North Wilkes-Barre. She was, for many years, a devoted volunteer in various church functions, including the annual parish bazaar and the Saint Mary Bereavement Group.

Fraternally, she held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers' Union.

Besides being preceded in death by her eight siblings, Cookie also bid farewell to her beloved husband, Mr. David L. Jenkins on April 10, 2008; a daughter Patricia Ressler and son-in-law Buzz Ressler, and a grandson, Dylan Golubieski.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mrs. Karen A. Wood and her husband Gary of Mountain Top; Grandchildren, including Jolene Tavaglione and her husband Joseph; Bradley Snell and wife Jacquelyn; Brittany Moser and husband George; Great-Grandchildren, Jacob Golubieski, April Tavaglione, Sebastian Butler, Abygail and Joseph Snell, Lilah and Maverick Moser; numerous nieces, nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jenkins will be conducted on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street. The Very Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, along with Cookie's nephew, the Reverend Walter Jenkins, C.S.C., pastor of Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, will serve as concelebrants.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation and shared remembrances Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday morning from 8:45 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations in Cookie's memory would be appreciated toward the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research at www.cancer.org or to Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18705.

Those wishing to share online words of comfort or a fond memory of Cookie with her family, are encouraged to do here on her memorial page.  Thank You.
