Mr. Frank Harold Sereyka, 76, a resident of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully early Monday morning, in the comfort of his residence with his family at his bedside, following a lengthy illness.
Born on Thursday, February 20, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of two sons to the late Mr. Fritz and Mrs. Roseanne (Prestas) Sereyka.
Educated in the city schools, he was a member of the 1965 graduating class of the former Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
He previously was employed by the InterMetro Corporation of Wilkes-Barre in his youth.
Prior to illness causing his retirement, Mr. Seryeka was self-employed as a skilled mechanic for many years. His love of mechanics and automotive repair carried over into his spare time. He loved fixing and rebuilding small engines; especially lawnmowers for family and friends. His favorite pastimes were spent with family; camping, filming various family gatherings over the years, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Proud of his Ukrainian heritage, Mr. Sereyka was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre and served as a board member for the Ukrainian Literary Association in Wilkes-Barre's Heights neighborhood for many years. Proudly, his son also serves as the association's president.
He and his wife, the former Kathleen Galpin recently celebrated fifty-seven years of married life together on March 8 of this year.
Besides his parents, Mr. Sereyka was preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Dale Sereyka.
Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his beloved wife Kathleen at home, are the couple's children; Lisa Ann Sereyka of Columbus, Ohio; Frank Harold Sereyka Jr. of Harvey's Lake; twin sons, Jason Sereyka and his wife Amanda of Mount Pocono, and Wilkes-Barre patrolman Jeremy Sereyka and his daughter's mother, Laura Chocallo, of Wilkes-Barre; Grandchildren, including Rachael, Brett, Sommer, Bradley, Dylan, Emma and Sophia Marie Sereyka; Several nieces, nephews, fellow association members and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Sereyka will be conducted on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Panachida offered by pastor emeritus, the Very Reverend Paul Richard Wolensky from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street Wilkes-Barre. The Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 635 North River Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Myron Myronyuk, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Blanchard Street, Plains Township.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to join the Sereyka family for visitation and shared remembrances Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
