Mr. Frank R. Sharry, 92 formerly of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully into Eternal Life just past midnight, Sunday, November 14 while in the care of the Partridge-Tippet Nursing Center at the Wesley Village campus, Jenkins Township; where he recently resided.
He was the husband of the late Marguerite C. (Marsh) Sharry, who recently passed on April 26th of this year. At the time of Mrs. Sharry's passing, the couple shared sixty-three years of married life together.
Born in Wallington, Bergen County, New Jersey, he was one of four children to the late Frank and Anna (Wagash) Sharry. Educated in the New Jersey schools, he was a 1947 graduate of the Lodi High School and was recognized for his outstanding intelligence quota.
Mr. Sharry proudly served our country with both the United States Army and later re-enlisting with the United States Navy during the Korean War.
In his youth and excelling as a baseball player, Mr. Sharry played in minor league baseball with the Boston Red Sox farm team in Norfolk, Virginia for several seasons.
He began his career in telecommunications with New Jersey Bell, later achieving the status of supervisor with Verizon PA. At the time of his formal retirement, he finished his career with the former Commonwealth Telephone Company.
While residing in New Jersey prior to the family's relocation to the Wyoming Valley, Mr. Sharry served as a volunteer firefighter with the Wallington and Fairlawn fire departments.
A devout Catholic, he was a member of the Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre and also held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New Jersey and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
In addition to his beloved wife Marguerite, Mr. Sharry was preceded in death by a son, Frank Edward Sharry on Christmas Day, 2002; a brother, Mr. Kenneth Sharry and a sister, Mrs. Lorraine Rembish.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they keep of him are his son, Michael P. Sharry and his wife, the former Barbara (Vodzak) Sharry of Parsons; Four Grandchildren including Amanda (Lenny); Christopher; Thomas and Frank; Two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Aubrey; Sister, Mrs. June Stollenmaier and her husband Herman "Bud" of Bloomfield, New Jersey; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Sharry will be held privately and at the convenience of his family with no formal public visitation. Interment will be next to his wife and son in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
