Mr. Gerald J. "Gerry" Giza, 69, a lifelong resident of Bear Creek Township, passed peacefully into the arms of Our Lord early Tuesday morning in the comfort of his residence with his wife and daughter at his bedside. He had battled a recent illness for the better part of a year.
Born on Saturday, August 23, 1952 in Wilkes-Barre, he would have celebrated his seventieth birthday just a week to the day after his passing.
He was one of three children to the late Louis and Josephine (Kundratic) Giza. Educated in the city schools, he was a member of the 1970 graduating class of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. He then furthered his education toward his vocation by attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.
Gerry began his career with the Inter Metro Corporation of Wilkes-Barre. He later took employment with the Knoll Office Furniture Company of East Greenville. Until his recent retirement in 2021, Gerry was employed as the director of continuous improvement services with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NEPIRC) in Hanover Township for several years. Throughout the course of his tenure, Gerry was the recipient of several citations, including the Six Sigma Green Belt; was certified as an I.S.O. internal auditor and was also certified as an electroplating finisher.
He held membership with Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Plains Township and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, where he successfully earned his lean bronze certification.
He was a lover of the outdoors, watching and coaching sports, and had a passion for music. In his spare time, Gerry could often be seen and heard playing his guitar, taking his grand children to parks, and watching sports regularly.
Above all else, Gerry is remembered as being a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather to his beloved family. His presence will be greatly missed by all those he loved in this life.
He and his wife, the former Eugenia R. "Jeanie" Molnar recently celebrated forty-three years of married life together on July 14th.
Besides his parents, Gerry was also preceded in death by sisters, Mrs. Louise Pesotki and Mrs. Jean Serafin.
Left to cherish the memory they keep of him in addition to his wife Jeanie at home, are the couple's daughters; Larissa Soroka and her husband Jeff of Blakeslee; Melanie Fellerman and her husband Greg of Harvey's Lake; Stephanie Fuge and her husband Tim of Markleysburg, PA; His adoring grandchildren including Jeffrey, Joey, Emily, Carly, Elise, Ava and Aiden; Several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Giza will be conducted on Saturday morning with his memorial funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Parish, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township. The Reverend John C. Lambert, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Inurnment will follow in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, PA Route #115, Bear Creek Township.
