Geraldine "Geri" George, R.N. Obituary

Ms. Geraldine “Geri” (Crop) George R.N., 78, formerly a longtime resident of North Main Street, Ashley; more recently a resident of Highland Park Senior Living, Schechter Drive, Wilkes-Barre Township; passed into eternal life early the morning of Sunday, May 5th while in the care of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Intensive Care Unit, following a prolonged illness.

Born at Christmastime on Wednesday, December 26, 1945 in Kingston, she was one of two daughters to the late Harold and Helen (Mushalla) Crop.  She was educated in the local schools.  Following her high school graduation, Ms. George furthered her education by attending the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, South Wilkes-Barre.

Upon attaining her registered nurse status, Ms. George became employed by then Mercy Hospital and later for Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital.  She served as an emergency room nurse on night shift and weekends; later in the same day surgery department.  At the time of her formal retirement, she gained the title of Director of Same Day Surgery.  Her professional career spanned some forty-five years of dedicated service to the South Wilkes-Barre community.

When she was a bit younger she enjoyed filling her spare time by working with ceramics, especially her famous Lenox Christmas trees.  Geri was known for her excellent baking skills and often shared her creations with family and friends.  She relished the several family trips to the beach, but especially loved cheering on her family’s many accomplishments.  Above all else, she truly enjoyed raising her sons and more recently her beloved grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her in this life.

Ms. George was preceded in death by her companion, Mr. Norman J. Magda on June 4, 2018.  At the time of Mr. Magda’s passing, the couple shared forty-five years of life together.  More recently she was preceded by her sister, Mrs. Jean M. Kienzle on November 17, 2023.

Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of their mother are her sons; Anthony Michael “Tony” George and his wife Erin of Plains Township, Michael George and his wife Jodi of Norristown and Christopher George and his wife Kerry of Mountain Top.  Grandchildren including Michael, Chrisopher (Auggie), Emma, Ally, Casey, Matthew and Harrison George.  Several nieces, nephews, former patients and dear friends.

Memorial funeral services for Ms. George will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 12:30 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc.  Relatives and friends are cordially invited to join her sons and family for a gathering of remembrance from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
