Helen Chim Obituary

Mrs. Helen (Savorey) Chim, 98, a former resident of the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, more recently a resident of the Gardens at Scranton, fell asleep in the Lord Wednesday evening, September 29th, as a patient of the Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton.

Born April 4, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of five children to the late Stanley and Mary (Cima) Savorey.  Educated in the Township schools, she was a member of the 1942 graduating class of the former Wilkes-Barre Township High School.

Until her retirement, Mrs. Chim was self-employed in hospitality as the owner and operator of the Glendella Hotel/Motel in Barryville, New York.  She held membership in the women's auxiliary of the Milford, PA American Legion and the Port Jervis N.Y. post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Following her relocation to the Wyoming Valley, she settled in her familial roots of Wilkes-Barre Township.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. Thomas Gdovin; January 13, 1981; her second husband, Mr. John Chim on November 4, 1989; by a brother, Mr. John Savorey; sisters, Mrs. Ann Pruce; Ms. Mary Savorey and Mrs. Mary Klimek.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Miss Lauren Gdovin of Woodstock, NY;  Mrs. Chim's dear friend and companion, Mr. Herbert Mayer, of Eldred, NY; Brother, Mr. Peter Savory; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chim will be conducted on Monday at 12:30 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 1:00 p.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street.

The Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.  Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the Savorey family lot of the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation and shared remembrances Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
