Helen Husty

     Miss Helen Husty, 94, beloved aunt, neighbor and friend; formerly of Wilkes-Barre's Heights neighborhood, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully the morning of Monday, June 5th, while in the care of Allied Services Skilled Nursing Meade Street facility, Wilkes-Barre.  She was most notably known as "Ciochi Helen" to those who knew and loved her in this life.

     Born on Sunday, September 16, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last of five children to the late Peter and Elizabeth (Semak) Husty.  Following the family's relocation to the Heights section of the city, she was educated in the city schools and graduated from the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

     Until her retirement, Miss Husty was employed for many years by the former Faith Shoe Company on Beekman Street, Wilkes-Barre.  Later, she worked for the Prestige Slipper Company and the Michael Pierog Cleaning Service.

     She held membership in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre.  Almost equally important to her as her faith, was her adoring family of whom she thoroughly cherished.  She lovingly helped raise several generations of nieces and nephews as well as their children.

     She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Margaret Sypniewski; by brothers, Joseph and Robert Husty; Step-Brother, Michael Husty; Brother-in-Law, Mr. John A. Sypniewski and a nephew, Mr. Peter A. Onukiewech.

     Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold dearly of Ciochi Helen are sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rita Husty and Mrs. June Husty, both of Wilkes-Barre; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her great-great nieces; the apples of her eyes, Ainsley and Addison; several neighbors and dear friends including her roommate Ciochi Anne.

     Funeral services for Miss Husty will be held privately and at the convenience of the family from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Very Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, will serve as celebrant and homilist and Professor Raymond Mastroberte will serve as cantor.  Interment will be in the family lot of Saint Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas where she will receive the Rite of Committal.

     The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the fourth floor staff at Allied Skilled Nursing for the excellent care shown Ciochi Helen, especially in her final days.  In particular, the family thanks Jenna, Christina, Jocelyn, Tina and Mickey for their care and support.
