Mrs. Helen Barbara (Kachmar) Kalanik, 87, a resident of Dallas, fell asleep in the Lord in the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas, following a recent illness.
Born on Saturday, February 13, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of two daughters to the late John and Helen (Dembic) Kachmar. Educated in the city schools, she was a 1955 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. Mrs. Kalanik furthered her education toward her vocation by attaining a bachelor's degree in education from then College Misericordia, Dallas.
Prior to her formal retirement, and having a love of children, she was employed as a kindergarten teacher for the Muncy Area School District for a number of years.
Previously, Barbara was an avid bowler and painter. She even entered her artwork in a local fair competition while residing in Indiana. Above all else, family was the focus of her life. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her beloved family. Her presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her in this life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Edward Paul Kalanik on September 29, 1986 and more recently by a son, Christopher J. Kalanik on May 6, 2019.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Ken and his wife Debbie of Dallas; Granddaughters, Rebecca and Michelle Emil; Great-granddaughters, Emely, Elly, Autumn, Harminnie and Felicity; Sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Thomas and her husband James of Glenside, PA; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Per her previous request, funeral services for Mrs. Kalanik will be held privately and at the convenience of her family with no visitation.
She will be laid to rest in the family lot of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.
The John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc. is honored to care for Mrs. Kalanik and her family at this time. Those wishing to share online words of comfort and sympathy with Ken and the family are encouraged to do so here on her memorial page. Thank You.
