Irene Mikulka Obituary

Mrs. Irene Mikulka, 97, a longtime resident of West Wyoming, passed peacefully the afternoon of Monday, June 3rd in Allied Services Center City Wilkes-Barre following a brief illness.

Born on Friday, January 14, 1927 in Plymouth, she was the last surviving of four children to her loving parents Adam and Stella and was educated in the Plymouth schools.

In her youth, Mrs. Mikulka worked as a cashier for the former Acme Markets Plymouth location.  Over time she would also take on the responsibilities of being named produce manager; a position she took much pride in performing.

Later in life she worked alongside her husband for the Chapin Apartments and Chapin Realty Company of Kingston for over forty years prior to her formal retirement.

She previously held membership in Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre.

In her spare time, she was an excellent cook and baker; most notably for her peach pies.  Having a fondness for animals, she had several pets over the years, but her heart belonged to her dog Kole.

She is best remembered as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family.  Her presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her in this life; including the staff of Allied Center City who so lovingly cared for her in her final days.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Stephen Mikulka in 1974, and by her husband Mr. Stephen Mikulka in 2009.  At the time of Mr. Mikulka's passing, the couple shared almost sixty-three years of married life together.  Also preceding her were her three siblings, including Mrs. Victoria Kmetz, Mrs. Dorothy Swentner and Mr. Stanley Ropieski.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories they keep of her are her children, Mrs. Donna Gassner and her husband Stewart of Laurel Run; Mr. Richard Mikulka of West Wyoming and Mrs. Reaney Radick of Mount Cobb; Grandchildren, including Nicole Radick; Stefanie Solimine and her husband William; Joseph and Nicole Suriano-Radick;  Great-grandchildren, William Michael Solimine; Isabella Solimine; Braylon Radick; Harper Radick and Yianni Kizirojlou; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Per her previous request, funeral services for Mrs. Mikulka will be held privately and at the convenience of her family with no formal visitation.   Private interment will be by her husband in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.  The Rite of Committal will be offered by the Reverend Peter J. Haenftling, Pastor of Saint Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Wilkes-Barre.

Because of her love of animals, in lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations in Mrs. Mikulka's memory are kindly requested for the S.P.C.A. of Luzerne County, 524 East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 or to spcaluzernecounty.org.
