Jane Hensley Obituary

Jane Della (Miller) Hensley, a beloved Mother, Nana and Sister, passed away peacefully on June 27th, 2026, at the Hospice Center of Allied Services in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Jane was born on January 6th, 1943, in Parsons, Pennsylvania to Beatrice and Thomas Miller.

Jane graduated from James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1960 and attended Wilkes University. While in high school, Jane met the love of her life Charles John (CJ) Hensley and on August 24, 1963, they were united in marriage. Jane and CJ would be together for 47 years until his death in 2011.

Jane was a proud Air Force spouse, supporting CJ throughout his twenty-eight years of service throughout the US and Canada and was a proud Mother of 3 sons, Charles (Chuck), Daniel (Dan) and Joseph (Joe). Jane was an incredible homemaker and stay at home Mom, always making sure the boys and their home were well taken care of; making delicious meals, sewing clothes for the boys, and encouraging them in all their endeavors. Jane's greatest joy was watching her sons succeed in their careers and become wonderful husbands and fathers.

After CJ retired from the Air Force, she and CJ returned to their hometown of Wilkes-Barre, PA to be closer to their families. Jane took wonderful care of their home on North Main Street and then spent many years repairing the home of her in-laws to its original beauty, living there until the time of her death.

A woman of great Faith, Jane loved her Church, daily devotions and reading and studying the Bible. She was a voracious reader and loved to learn and expand her knowledge of the world around her and the many things that she found interesting. Jane loved to share her knowledge and was not afraid of a good debate; she would often send articles to her family that she knew they would enjoy. Jane was a wonderfully thoughtful gift giver, and her family could always count on cards and gifts on Birthdays (even on unbirthdays), Christmas, and most every holiday. Jane also loved to travel, mostly with her sister Micky, with whom she took many wonderful trips, to London, New York, Switzerland, and Austria. Jane also enjoyed traveling around the world and the US visiting her sons and their families.

Jane lived her life as a strong, independent, and very capable woman. She was the backbone of her family and worked hard to make sure they were always supported. Her love and support of family went beyond her three sons and their families: she helped care for her father and mother-in-law, her mother, her brother-in-law, her sister and her husband, CJ. Doing the right thing was always important to Jane and taking care of family was always the right thing. Love from Jane was not always warm and fuzzy, but it was always consistent, real and something everyone whom she loved always knew and felt.

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Colonel (US Army, retired) Chuck, his wife Nikki; Dan, his wife Tamara; Lieutenant Colonel (PA Air National Guard) Joe and his wife Lisa; grandchildren: Shaelene, Kaleb, Katy, Elly, Tasanee, Kayden, Maggy, Parker, Sarila and Addison, as well as great grandchildren, Emily Jane and Reed; and her brother Arthur S. Miller, his wife June and their children; as well as numerous cousins and extended family.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband CJ Hensley; her brother Thomas H. Miller, his wife Belle, and his son, Steven; her sister Mary Ellen (Micky) Nieman; and her brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Hensley.

A private interment will take place alongside her husband, Senior Master Sgt. Charles J. Hensley U.S. Air Force, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pennsylvania, on July 28th, 2026 at 11am.
