Miss Joan Marie Harry, 75, a beloved lifelong resident of Plymouth, passed into eternal life the morning of Saturday, January 4th, while in the care of Maple Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Kingston, following a recent illness.
Born on Friday, March 18, 1949 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of four children and the only daughter to the late William F. and Elizabeth T. "Betty" (Kalafut) Harry.
Educated in the Catholic faith, Joan Marie attended the former Saint Vincent Parish Parochial School in Plymouth.
Until her retirement, she was employed in the housekeeping department for the Wyoming Valley West School District, Plymouth. Previously, she worked in the area's garment industry for the former Atwater Throwing and Textile Company, also of Plymouth.
Miss Harry held membership in All Saints Parish of Plymouth, having been a lifelong member of the former Saint Stephen's Roman Catholic Church.
Joan Marie is best remembered for her warm and caring smile; her love of life and generous spirit. In her spare time, she loved to crochet and would often share her handmade creations with family and friends over the years. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Besides her father Bill, who passed on December 2, 1987 and her mother Betty, who passed on January 23, 1996, she also bid farewell to a brother, Frank T. Harry on November 10, 2000.
Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of her are her brothers David J. Harry and his wife, Gloria (Figel) Harry of West Pittston; Thomas W. Harry of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Florence "Cookie" (Nitch) Harry of Lehman Township; several nieces and nephews along with several generations of cousins including Stephen Batory and his wife Dr. Anne of Dallas, who lovingly kept in close contact with Joanie, especially in her final days.
Joanie’s family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of Maple Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing for the exceptional and professional care they showed her during her stay.
Funeral services for Joan Marie will be conducted on Thursday, January 9th with her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in All Saints Parish, 66 Willow Street, Plymouth. The Reverend Gerald J. Gurka, pastor of All Saints and Saint John the Baptist Parishes will serve as celebrant and homilist.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Stephen's Roman Catholic Cemetery of All Saints Parish, Jackson Street, Lehman Township.
Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation and shared remembrances directly at church Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of floral tributes, Joan Marie's family would be humbled if those wishing to make a monetary donation in her memory, kindly give consideration to the American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org.
The John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc. of Wilkes-Barre is both honored and saddened to care for our cousin Joanie and the family at this time. Those who cannot attend or would like to share words of comfort or a fond memory of her with the family are encouraged to do so here on her memorial page. Thank You.
