John Metzo Obituary

Mr. John Andrew "Jackie" Metzo, 80, a beloved lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed peacefully into Eternal Life Friday, May 30th while in the care of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a recent illness.

Born on Wednesday, June 21, 1944 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of four sons to the late Vincent W. and Anna Mae (Comisky) Metzo.

Educated in the city schools, he was a graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Devoted to his Catholic faith, he previously was a Communicant of the former Parishes of Saint Andre Bessette and Sacred Heart of Jesus, both formerly of North Wilkes-Barre.

In his spare time, he loved participating with the Wyoming Valley Barbershop Harmony Chorus as a bass.  For his many years of dedication to the Chorus, he was the proud recipient of a 50 year medallion by his fellow members.  He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him in this life.

Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by brothers, Mr. Raymond Metzo and Major Vincent Metzo, U.S. Army, Retired.

Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of him are his brother, Mr. William V. Metzo, Manhattan Borough, New York City; Several nieces and nephews; Fellow chorus members and family friends including Mrs. Ann Marie Ushing of Plains Township, who has been so caring to Jack over the years.

Per the family's request, funeral services for Mr. Metzo will be held privately and at their convenience with no formal visitation.

Interment will be in the family lot of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations are requested to the Harmony Foundation 110 7th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37203.
