Mr. Joseph M. "Beany" Bennick, 82, also fondly remembered by family and friends as "The Song Man" for his impeccable knowledge of classic music and the legendary artists; sadly passed from our midst into Eternal Life early Wednesday morning in the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, following a recent illness.
Born on Friday, February 16, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of two children to the late Joseph Robert and Mary (Sisko) Bennick.
Educated in the city schools, Joe was a member of the 1957 graduating class of the former Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
A devout Catholic, Mr. Bennick was a member of Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
Until his formal retirement, Joe was employed as a supervisor for forty years in the data processing department of the Dana Perfume Company of Mountain Top. After retirement, Beany could not sit idly by. He then took employment as a part-time cashier for McCarthy Car Wash, in Wilkes-Barre's East End for some thirteen years, where he garnered a number of dear friends; right up to his passing.
The Indianapolis Colts football organization along with the San Francisco Giants baseball team lost one of their most endearing fans. Above all, he was a consummate father-figure to many; including this funeral director who is honored to write his obituary and my wife.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of whom he missed so much after her passing; the former Patricia C. (Kuhl) Bennick, who passed on Saturday, October 8, 2016. At the time of Patty’s passing, the couple shared fifty-two years of married life together, being wed on Saturday, May 16, 1964.
He was also recently preceded by his brother-in-law, Mr. Ted Karmilovich.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold dear of their father are his sons, Joseph J. (Jay) Bennick of Wilkes-Barre, and Jonathan R. Bennick, at home; along with his significant other, Ms. Lisa A. Cullen of Scranton; Sister, Miss Mary Jo Bennick of Grovetown, Georgia; Several cousins, nieces, nephews, dear neighbors and friends.
Funeral services for Beany will be conducted on Monday, December 19th; with his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of Saint Nicholas, 226 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Fidel Ticona, Parochial Vicar, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the chapel of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township prior to his burial next to Patty. Those attending the funeral are asked to assemble directly at Saint Nicholas Church by 9:45 a.m.
Relatives and friends are also invited to join Jay, Jonathan and family for visitation and shared remembrances of Beany Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
May Mr. Bennick now rest peacefully with his dear Patty in the love and hope of the Risen Christ!
