Joseph Ceklosky Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beautiful voice and faithful servant who has been called to be with our Father in Heaven.  Mr. Joseph Francis Ceklosky, 81, best known as "Chic" and "Sparky" to many, passed peacefully into Eternal Life the morning of Saturday, May 2, 2026 in the care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Born on Sunday, July 23, 1944 on North Franklin Street, in Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, he was one of nine children to the late Michael and Justine (Iskra) Ceklosky.

Educated in the city schools, he was a graduate of both the former Sacred Heart Slovak Parochial School and the James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1962, both of Wilkes-Barre.

Devoted to his Roman Catholic faith and having an undeniable pride in his Slovak heritage; he was a former member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Parish in North Wilkes-Barre.  Here he was active with the Family Life Committee; was involved in the church's countless restorations projects. He also contributed his time and talents to erecting and lighting the annual bazaar booths.  Fraternally, he held membership in the Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania; with whom he recorded two albums of Slovak liturgical music.

Joe began his exposure to employment at a young age by picking produce at Lesko Barney Farms; cleaning the Sterling Theater; delivering groceries for Hudock's store; delivering newspapers to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital; creating beautiful flower arrangements at Yurko's Floral Shop; completing home remodeling projects with his brother Leonard for Sears, Roebuck & Co; all before joining the United States Army Reserves in 1965.  He was Honorably Discharged from military duties with the rank of E5 Buck Sergeant with the former 109th Field Artillery.

It was around this time that he would meet and eventually marry the former Loretta L. (Sieminski) Ceklosky on September 7, 1968.

The couple would raise two generations of children over the course of their fifty-seven years of married life together.

In 1969 he received his Master Electrician's license and started his own electrical business, Joseph F. Ceklosky Electric.  He truly was a jack of all manual trades. Later in 1975, he expanded his services to include repairing hot tubs, saunas and whirlpool baths including Kohler, Jacuzzi and American Standard just to name a few major brands.

In his spare time, Joe loved visiting with his family Niagara Falls; Czechoslovakia; Hawaii; Thousand Islands; Boulder Field; Lake Jean; Council Cup Overlook; the Bloomsburg Fair and countless area flea markets.

Sadly, he and Loretta were preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Ann.  He also bid farewell to siblings; Bernadine Stefanovich; Florence Sierko; Barbara Jean Ceklosky; Mary Ann Krajnik; Leonard F. Ceklosky and Michael Ceklosky.

Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they now keep of him, in addition to his beloved Loretta at home, are the couple's children; Joseph F. Ceklosky and his wife Sue of Douglassville; Leigh Ann Davis and her husband Brian of Wyoming and James M. Ceklosky of Canonsburg;  Grandchildren, Emma Rose, Cole Matthew and Jake Joseph Ceklosky;  Brothers, Francis Ceklosky and his wife Theresa of Hudson and John Ceklosky of King of Prussia; Numerous nieces, nephews; fellow contractors, former clients and dear friends.

The Ceklosky family would like to gratefully acknowledge the nurses and doctors of Geisinger Wyoming Valley for the kindness and compassionate care shown to Joe and the entire family during his stay.

Funeral services for Mr. Ceklosky will be conducted on Tuesday, May 12 at 9:15 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett Street, Luzerne.  The Reverend Michael J. Boris, Parochial Vicar, will serve as celebrant and homilist.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Mount Olivet Diocesan Cemetery, Wyoming.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to join the family for a period of visitation and shared remembrances Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
