Ms. Judith C. (Hankey) Cunius, 72, a resident of Lee Park Towers in the Lee Park section of Hanover Township, passed peacefully into eternal life early the morning of Monday, June 9th while in the care of the River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plains Township, following a recent illness.
Born on Friday, October 17, 1952 in Pittston, she was one of five children and the only daughter to the late George S. and Helen L. (Miller) Hankey.
Educated in the local schools, Ms. Cunius was a 1972 graduate of the West Side Vocational Technical School.
Until her recent retirement in 2023, Judith was employed as a skilled hairdresser; dedicating her life to the beauty industry, where she brought joy and confidence to countless clients during her tenure with Mickey's Hair Gallery in Hanover Township; later retiring from Holiday Hair Fashions in the South Main Plaza, Wilkes-Barre. Her passion for her work was evident; she had a unique talent for making others look and feel their best.
Besides her parents she bid farewell to brothers George, James and Ronald Hankey.
In this time of grief, we remember Judith not just in her passing, but for her unwavering spirit; and the way she made the world a more beautiful place, one hairstyle at a time. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her in return.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories they now keep of her are her beloved son, John J. Cunius Jr. and his wife Melanie of Wilkes-Barre Township; her grandson Preston Cunius, who brought light into her life that words cannot express; her last remaining brother, Mr. Paul Hankey and his wife Loretta of Swoyersville; Numerous nieces and nephews; countless patrons and dear friends.
Per her previous request, funeral services for Ms. Cunius will be held privately and at the convenience of her family with no formal visitation.
The John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc. of Wilkes-Barre is honored to care for Ms. Cunius and her family at this time.
