Katherine (Hulewicz-Wojcinski) Verostek

December 10, 1924 ~ June 23, 2021 (age 96)

Shortly after nine Wednesday morning, June 23rd, Mrs. Katherine (Hulewicz-Wojcinski) Verostek, 96, passed peacefully into eternal life in the comfort of her residence with her son Henry at her bedside.

Born December 10, 1924 in a small Belarus village, she was a daughter to the late Stephan and Marie Hulewicz.  She was educated in the European schools as a child.  At the age of fifteen, she was taken to a Nazi woman's interment labor camp.  Following the camps' liberation by Allied Forces, she remained in Germany.  During this period, she would lose her first husband, Mr. Joseph Wojcinski in 1948.  In January of 1952, she immigrated to the United States with two small sons, ages 5 and 2 1/2, settling in New Jersey.  It was here she would gain employment with the former Weston Biscuit Company in Passaic for several years.  She would meet and eventually marry Mr. Martin J. Verostek in July of 1963.

The family would again relocate to the Wyoming Valley, planting roots near her in-laws on Poplar Street.

Devoted to her Catholic faith, Mrs. Verostek held membership in the former Sacred Heart/Saint John's Parish Community of North Wilkes-Barre, and more recently at Saint Leo/Holy Rosary Parish in Ashley.  Enjoying Polka music and dancing, she and her late husband Martin were members of the Polka Jets locally.

In her spare time, Mrs. Verostek enjoyed crocheting, tending to her annual gardens and the various trips she and her son Henry made to Mohegan Sun Pocono.

In addition to her first husband Mr. Joseph Wojcinski who passed in 1948 and her second husband, Mr. Martin J. Verostek who passed on December 23, 2004, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, Henry Wojcinski.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories they hold of their mother are her beloved children, Mr. Henry Wojcinski, with whom she resided; Mr. John Wojcinski of Palm Bay, FL; and Mrs. Kathy K. Capobianco along with her husband Frank of Clifton, N.J.; Grandchildren, including Frank Capobianco and his fiancé, Nadia Basil; Alexis Capobianco and Nichole Wojcinski; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

To better summarize what she meant to those who knew and loved her, "Mom, your suffering is over.  We will miss you, but you are not forgotten.  We cherish the wonderful moments with you...we love you forever, Hank"  and "Mom, thank you for everything you taught us and for all the things you did for us.  You will forever be in our hearts - we have so many beautiful memories!!  I know you were welcomed in Heaven by so many who have missed you.  Have a dance with dad, sing some songs with your friends and plant your favorite flowers.  Keep smiling down on us, mom.....sleep in the sweetest peace.  I love you, Kathy."

Funeral services for Mrs. Verostek will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, followed by her con-celebrated Funeral Mass at 12 noon in Saint Leo/Holy Rosary Parish, 33 Manhattan Street, Ashley.  The Reverend Vincent H. Dang, pastor and the Reverend Jesus Peralta Rosario, pastor of Saint Brendan and Saint George Parish, Clifton, N.J., will serve as con-celebrants.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband Martin in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.

Relatives and friends are invited to join Mrs. Verostek's family for visitation and shared remembrances Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
