Lawrence Schultz Obituary

Mr. Lawrence J. "Larry" Schultz, 73, formerly of Wilkes-Barre and Shavertown; currently a resident of Pensacola, Florida, passed into eternal life peacefully at his residence Thursday, January 11th, following a prolonged illness.

Born on Thursday, November 2, 1950 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of seven children to the late Mr. Lawrence P. and Mrs. Naomi G. (MacArt) Schultz, formerly of Wilkes-Barre's Heights neighborhood.

Educated in the Catholic faith, Larry was a 1968 graduate of the former Saint Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Immediately following his education, he served several years with the Army National Guard.

Prior to his formal retirement, Larry was a well known and respected member of the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department for some twenty-nine years.  He held various positions and served at several stations in the city; having spent his remaining years of service at the department's headquarters on Ross Street.  He made countless friends who became honorary "brothers" in their service to the city over the years.

Prior to that, he worked as a delivery man for the Post Fuel Company of Hanover Township for several years.  Also being hands-on and gifted in various aspects of construction, he assisted his late Uncle Joe as a tradesman for the Joseph Schultz Carpentry Company of Wilkes-Barre for a number of years.

Larry was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge of construction with family and friends.  He was well-versed in plumbing, heating, electrical, masonry and even completely remodeled several of his previous residences single-handedly.

More recently and in his spare time, you could find Larry camping, boating or fishing....always with his family.   Family was the focal point of his life, and his presence will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Fraternally, he held membership in the International Association of Fire Fighters, Wilkes-Barre Chapter #104.   He was also proud to have been involved in the city's "Stop, Drop and Roll" campaign; teaching children to be comfortable and trusting in fire fighters in case of emergency situations.

Above all else, Larry is best remembered as being a loving, devoted husband to Joanne for over fifteen years; the best father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.  May he now rest peacefully in Our Lord until we meet again!

Left to cherish his memory in addition to his beloved wife, the former Joanne (Goldstein) Schultz at home are his adoring children; Christie Kipa of Nags Head, North Carolina; Karen D'Agostino and her husband Joe of Mississippi and Robert "Bobby" Schultz of Wilkes-Barre;  Six grandchildren including Caitlyn, Jessica, Chance, Braden, Levi and Connor; Three Great-grandchildren; Brooke, Riley and Ryder.  Also siblings, Mrs. Catherine "Cathy" Jackubowski and her husband Raymond of Shavertown; Miss Mary Jean Schultz of Kingston; Mrs. Elizabeth "Betsy" Theis and her husband Mark of Mount Pocono; Ms. Joan Marie Hine and her fiancée Jeff Lawson of Shavertown; Mr. Kenneth Schultz and his wife Susan of Harding; Mrs. Janet Price and her husband Leonard of Nuangola; Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, several generations of cousins, fellow firefighters and dear friends.

Per his previous request, funeral services for Larry will be held privately and at the convenience of his family with no formal visitation.  In a final act of selflessness, Larry has donated his mortal remains to be used in the advancement of medical science technologies for continued research and hopeful cures to present day illnesses.
