Linda Byra Obituary

Mrs. Linda A. (Drevenak) Byra, 65, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life late Thursday evening in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following complications from a recent illness.

Born Saturday, September 15, 1956 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of five daughters to the late John J. and Emily (Balko) Drevenak.  Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1974 graduating class of the former Grand Army of the Republic High School, Wilkes-Barre.

A faithful Catholic, she was a member of Saint Andrew Parish of Wilkes-Barre.

Until her formal retirement to raise her family, Mrs. Byra was employed for several years as a sewing machine operator for Carter Footwear Company.  Previously in her youth, she had been employed by Leggieri's Market, both formerly of Wilkes-Barre.

In her spare time, Linda enjoyed crocheting various items for family and friends; taking long car rides; playing bingo, and her trips to the Mohegan Sun Casino.  She especially loved the many family gatherings and events shared over the years.  Above all else, Linda is remembered as being a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

She and her beloved husband, Mr. Charles Byra, recently celebrated forty-seven years of married life together on October 26th of last year.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Byra in December of 1981; by a sister, Pat McGlynn; and by brothers-in-law, former Ashley Fire Chief, Joe McGlynn and Bill Kramer.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories they have of her including her husband Charlie, at home are sons, Keith of Wilkes-Barre; Charles Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Mountain Top and Ashley Councilman, Carl John Byra and his wife Alison of Ashley; Grandchildren; Gavin and Carlee Byra; Sisters, Diane Kramer of Scranton, Debbie Drevenak of Ashley and Donna Sipple of Wilkes-Barre; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Per her previous request, funeral services and interment for Linda will be held privately and at the convenience of her family with no formal visitation.
