Mr. Luis DeJesus Martinez, 84, a resident of Wilkes-Barre's Heights neighborhood, passed peacefully into eternal life early the morning of Sunday, September 22 while in the care of Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Christmastime, December 21, 1939 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Pablo DeJesus and Carlas Martinez. Mr. DeJesus Martinez was educated in the Puerto Rican school system.
Following the family's migration to mainland United States, they settled in Patterson, New Jersey prior to their relocation to the Wyoming Valley.
Devoted to his Catholic faith, he held membership in Saint Nicholas-Saint Mary Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
He and his wife, Georgelina Vargas shared seventeen years of married life together on January 12th of this year.
Prior to the recent pandemic; in his spare time, Luis loved to celebrate happy times by dancing at various family events. He also enjoyed watching a good movie. Above all, his family was the focal point of his life. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose presence will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Besides his parents, Luis was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Miguel DeJesus Martinez.
Left to cherish his memory in addition to his beloved wife Georgelina at home are his three sons; Pablo DeJesus, Louie DeJesus and Alex DeJesus, all of New Jersey; Seven grandchildren; Several brothers and sisters; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mr. DeJesus Martinez will be conducted on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
The Reverend Fidel Ticona, parochial vicar of Saint Nicholas-Saint Mary Parish will offer the Liturgy of the Word serving as celebrant and homilist.
Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends may join Georgelina and her family Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services.
