Mara Maloney Obituary

Mrs. Mara A. (McKeown) Maloney, 44, a resident of Plains Township, fell asleep in the Lord most unexpectedly early in the morning on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at her residence one day before her 45th birthday.

Born August 13, 1975 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of three children and the only daughter to the late Stephen McKeown, who passed last year on August 4, 2019 and the late Catherine R. (Adams) McKeown, who passed on October 21, 2001.

Educated in the city schools, she graduated from the James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1993.  Mara furthered her education by attaining her bachelor's degree.  She was educated in communications, liberal arts and computer science from the Pennsylvania State University.

Previously, she was employed as a civilian secretary for the United States military in Stuttgart, Germany.

She attended Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in North Wilkes-Barre.

Currently, Mara was employed as a Java script programmer for the Deluxe Digital Corporation in Moosic.

A lover of animals, in her spare time, she and her husband Pat would volunteer at the Luzerne County S.P.C.A. in Plains Township.

Mara is remembered as being a loving devoted wife, sister and aunt to her dear family.  Her presence will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her in this life.

She and her husband, Patrick celebrated four years of married life together on June 6th of this year.

In addition to her parents, Mara was most recently preceded in death by her nephew of whom she loved like her own child, Tyler McKeown on July 8th.

Left to cherish the memories she leaves in addition to her beloved husband Patrick at home are brothers, David P. McKeown and his wife Heather of North Wilkes-Barre and Michael McKeown and his wife Marisa of Wilkes-Barre;  Sister-in-law, Kathleen Prisk and her husband Jim of Plains Township; Nephews and niece, David McKeown Jr.; A.J. and Monica Prisk; fellow co-workers and dear friends.

Per her previous wishes, funeral services for Mara will be private and at the convenience of her family.   There will be no public visitation.
