Margaret Dorzinsky Obituary

Mrs. Margaret (Sochko) Dorzinsky, 96, a resident of the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township; known best by family and friends simply as "Margie", fell asleep in the Lord early the morning of Tuesday, January 7th while residing in the Embassy of East Mountain Nursing Facility, following a prolonged illness.

Born on Monday, August 13, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was one of nine children to Rusyn immigrants, Julia (Juliauna Kerecsanin) Sochko and John (Janos Szocska) Sochko.  Educated in the city schools, she was a member of the 1946 graduating class of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.  She later furthered her education by taking courses at the Wyoming Seminary Business College.

Until her formal retirement, Mrs. Dorzinsky was employed as the payroll clerk for the former Muskin Pools Company of Wilkes-Barre for thirty-two years.  It was at the Daily Blue Line Transfer that she would meet her husband, Mr. Walter Dorzinsky and spent the next sixty-seven years together.

*-Margie and Walter bowled and played golf together, attended and shared GCU (Greek Catholic Union) events, volunteered at annual church bazaars and raised three children; Donna, Michael and Cynthia.

Devoted to her Byzantine Catholic faith, she and her late husband Walter were pillars of their church.  Together, they were previously very active in a variety of parish activities at Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre.

Above all else, Margie will be sorely missed for her gentle loving ways and her warm, welcoming smile.  May her memory be eternal in our Heavenly Father!

Margaret is survived by her three children, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; in addition to her last living sibling, Mrs. Dorothy D’Arco and several generations of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter on March 16, 2019 and grandson Christopher on February 6, 2022.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorzinsky will be conducted on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with the Office of Christian Burial from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Very Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church will serve as celebrant and homilist and Professor Raymond J. Mastroberte will serve as cantor.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will immediately follow in the family lot of the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the Dorzinsky family Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home and again Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of floral tributes, Margie’s family would be humbled if those wishing to make a monetary donation in her memory give consideration to Reverend Andrii Dumnitch at Saint Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 North Main Street, Pittston, PA 18640.

These funds will ultimately assist the Bishop Theodore of Mukachevo Campaign in Ukraine.

Those unable to attend or who might like to share words of comfort or a fond memory of Margie with her family are encouraged to do so here on her memorial page.  Thank You.
