Mrs. Marie B. (Partika) Flannery, a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed peacefully into Eternal Life early Friday morning, December 9th in the Kingston Health Care Center, Third Avenue, following a recent illness.
Born on Monday, December 3, 1934 in Wilkes-Barre, she just celebrated her 88th birthday last week. Mrs. Flannery was one of three children to the late Imrich and Anna (Stasik) Partika.
Educated in the city schools, she was a 1952 graduate of the former Saint Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, Mrs. Flannery previously held membership and was formerly active in both Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Andre Bessette Parishes of North Wilkes-Barre, prior to their individual closings.
She is best remembered for her gentle, motherly ways; being a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family of whom will greatly miss her presence in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, former Wilkes-Barre City Fire Captain, Thomas A. Flannery on December 2, 1993. At the time of Mr. Flannery's passing, the couple shared thirty-seven years of married life together. Also preceding her were her brother, William Partika in 1991; Sister, Miss Theresa A. Partika in 2020 and sadly her daughter-in-law Barbara Flannery just 24 hours prior to her own passing on December 8th, 2022.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Maureen Roche; Thomas Flannery; Brian Flannery; Kevin E. Flannery and Michael Flannery. Ten grandchildren; Her nephew, Charles Flannery and several dear family friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Flannery will be held privately and at the convenience of her family with her funeral Mass in Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston. The Reverend Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor, serving as celebrant and homilist. Interment with the Rite of Committal will be next to her husband in Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas. There will be no formal visitation.
