Mrs. Marie T. (Yanok) Zemanick, 82, formerly of Scott Street in the Parsons section of the city, passed into Eternal Life Monday afternoon while in the care of Kingston Manor, following an illness.

Born January 20, 1938 in Larksville, she was one of six children to the late George and Elizabeth (Tomas) Yanok.

Educated in the West Side schools, she was a graduate of the Larksville High School.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Education from Wilkes College in 1964 and later her Master of Science degree in Counseling Education from the University of Scranton in 1975.  Mrs. Zemanick furthered her education toward her vocation by attaining a diploma in nursing from the former Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Zemanick began her nursing career in 1960 as a Pediatric and Medical-Surgical Staff Nurse at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital and simultaneously served as instructor for the Nursing of Children Course at the hospital until 1973, when she transitioned to the Hospital-wide Infection Control, Employee Health and Assistant Education Coordinator at Nesbitt.  In 1978 she earned the title of Vice President of Nursing Services: Wyoming Valley Health Care System, Inc., Nesbitt Memorial Hospital Campus.  At the time of her formal retirement, Marie served as a Counselor at the Children's Service Center in Wilkes-Barre.

Raised in the Catholic faith, Mrs. Zemanick was previously a member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre prior to its closure.

Mrs. Zemanick was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Stephen A. Zemanick on April 14, 1999.  At the time of Mr. Zemanick's passing, the couple shared almost 30 years of married life together.  Also preceding her were her brother, Mr. George P. Yanok on November 22, 1994 and most recently, a sister, Mrs. Helen M. Saxon on November 11, 2014.

Left to cherish the memories they hold of her are her children, Stephen Zemanick  and his wife Janeen of Chesterbook, Chester County and Chef Susan Zemanick and her husband Jorin Ostroska of New Orleans, LA;  Grandchildren, including Kaitlyn Zemanick and Simone & Lola Ostroska;  Sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Dudek of Larksville, Eleanor Barna of Plains and Bernadine (Deanie) Moses of King of Prussia;  Sister-in-Law, Joan Zemanik of Wilkes-Barre; Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends.
