Mark Mazzillo, 70, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully during the early morning hours on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 with his loving wife, Nancy, at his bedside in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Mark was the son of the late Albert and Martha Mazzillo. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, in Kingston, PA, in 1971.
Mark met the love of his life, Nancy, in 1975 and married in 1976. Together they raised two children, Jason and Maria, who he loved unconditionally and was so proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed visiting each of them and sharing their successes with everyone.
Mark recently retired from the Maintenance Department at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after 42 years. He loved being part of the hospital workforce and made his colleagues’ work days enjoyable. Mark enjoyed exercising, making new friends wherever he went, and evening walks with his pups around the streets of Swoyersville.
Mark was most known for his sense of humor and outgoing personality; he always found a way to make someone smile or laugh. Anyone who knew Mark, treasured his friendship and enjoyed being in his presence.
Mark loved tinkering with his flowers and plants in his backyard- a self-created oasis of greenery coupled with interesting items; dinosaurs, homemade characters, and creative ideas that would catch a visitor’s eye and make them laugh or admire his crafty wit to make the space fun and inviting.
Most notably was Mark’s love for his wife Nancy. They enjoyed many travels together, attending summer church bazaars, dinners out with friends, and hanging out at home with their pets. They taught their family what true love and commitment should be like through their love for each other.
Mark was the best uncle to his nephew and nieces, and took great pride in this role while being highly involved in their lives. He loved attending family events and rarely missed them. He was always the life of the party, bringing laughter and fun to any event.
When Mark was diagnosed with cancer, he remained positive, endured the treatments with a good attitude and strong mindset-he taught us all that cancer would not define him, to live every minute with perseverance, and to continue to laugh and enjoy life even on the hardest days. Mark will sorely be missed by his family and many, many friends; life will not be the same without him.
Mark is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Mlodzinski), son Jason (Philadelphia), and daughter Maria (Raleigh, North Carolina); brother Eric (Ricky) Mazzillo (Swoyersville); Sister and brother-in-law Carol and Jeff Carter (Wilkes-Barre Township), nephew Jeffrey Carter and his wife Grace (White Haven), niece Melissa Myers and her husband Phillip (Bear Creek), niece Cathy Thomas and her husband Curt (Weatherly), eight great nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Kimberly, Jeffrey Jr. III, and Michael Carter; Joshua, Zachary, and Katelyn Myers; and Nathan Thomas; his many friends, and pets.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Amber Palace, 228 George Avenue in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre.
