Mary Catherine Ihnat, 79, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Thomas Sipple and Martha Evans Sipple.
Mary Kay graduated from Wilkes-Barre Twp. High School, Class of 1960. She was employed as an analyst specialist for the social security office until her retirement in 2019.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Ihnat; and brothers, Thomas, Albert and Henry Sipple; and sisters, Margaret and Ruth Sipple.
Surviving are her daughters, Cathy Conner, Delaware; and Peggy McGrath and husband, Michael, Wilkes-Barre; Dr. Patty Ihnat-Shroff and husband, Dr. Farook, Wilkes-Barre; and Elizabeth Hagenbuch and husband, David, Plains Twp. Mary will be missed by her grandchildren, Michael Inhat, Alex and Andrew Conner, Michael McGrath, Michael and Ryan Hagenbuch and Little G. Mary Kay enjoyed spending time with her family. Breakfasts, cookouts and vacations just to name a few. Yearly beach trips were the best even though she only ever stepped foot on the beach twice in her life. Her motto was always "All are welcome."
The family would like to thank Mary Kay's caregivers and the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their support during this difficult time.
The blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street., Wilkes-Barre, with Reverend Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor of Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston, officiating.
Interment will be in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
