Announcing the passing of a beloved member of the Fox Hill community of Plains Township; Mrs. Mary (Hutz) Petrin, 89, fell asleep in the Lord Sunday, July 20th while in the care of Embassy of East Mountain following a recent illness.
Born on Friday, November 8, 1935 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last surviving of five children to the late Walter and Elizabeth (Sheplock) Hutz.
Educated in the city schools, she was a graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1953.
Until her retirement, Mrs. Petrin took pride in her customer service duties at Sears Roebuck & Company, formerly in the Wyoming Valley Mall. Her warm demeanor and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on countless customers, many of whom fondly remember her friendly face in their own lives.
Devoted to her Eastern Catholic faith, Mrs. Petrin was a lifelong member of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre. Previously, she and her late husband Nicholas were quite active in church affairs; especially when it came to volunteering at the annual parish festivals or assisting at various other social events.
In her spare time, she loved her many trips to the senior center; playing bingo with friends or taking ocean cruises to a various ports of call.
Mrs. Petrin is best remembered for the pride she took in raising her daughter and seeing her grandchildren grow into young adults. Her family will forever cherish the memoires of their time together. Mary's legacy of love, service and compassion will continue to shine through her family and dear friends.
On December 1 of 2002, she bid farewell to her beloved husband, Mr. Nicholas J. Petrin, with whom, shared forty-three years of married life together at the time of his passing. Also preceding her in death were sisters; Mrs. Ann Lahr, Mrs. Betty Saska and Mrs. Catherine Gruver along with her brother, Mr. Walter Hutz.
Left to cherish her memory in addition to her daughter Suzanne Robacheski and her husband Lawrence of Mountain Top are the couple's children including: Sarah Billeck and her companion Omar Galeno; Nicholas Hruska and his companion Alison Roberts; step-granddaughter Kellie Coberth and her husband Scott; several generations of nieces and nephews along with many dear friends.
Funeral services with Panachida will be conducted on Friday, July 25 at 9:30 a.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street. The Very Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow next to her husband Nicholas in the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may join the family for visitation and shared remembrances Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
