Monica Winchilla Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mrs. Monica A. (Prevuznak) Winchilla. Mrs. Winchilla
fell asleep in the Lord Friday, the evening of August 30, 2024 while in the care of the Wilkes-Barre General
Hospital, following a recent illness.
A lifetime resident of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, she was born on Monday, January 8, 1940
and was the last surviving of four children to the late Stephen T. and Agnes (Offshack) Prevuznak.
Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Winchilla was a 1957 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High
School, Wilkes-Barre.
Until her formal retirement, she worked in the area's garment industry for a number of years as a
seamstress for the Leslie Fay Company, formerly of Plains Township.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, having made a number of afghans over the years for family and
friends. Enjoying the outdoors, she also enjoyed tending to her many seasonal gardens.
Above all else, Monica is best remembered as being a loving, devoted mother and grandmother; a
wonderful neighbor and dear friend. Her presence will be missed by all those who knew and loved her in this life.
Mrs. Winchilla was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Charles R. Winchilla on December 27,
1993. At the time of Mr. Winchilla's passing, the couple shared thirty-five years of married life together. She was
also preceded by a son, Mr. Robert James Winchilla on July 9, 2016 and by siblings; Mr. Bernard M. Prevuznak on
September 4, 2013; Mrs. Regina C. Polacheck on February 3, 2022 and most recently by Mr. Stephen V. Prevuznak
on January 14, 2024.
Left to cherish all the wonderful memories they keep of their mother are her sons, Charles S. Winchilla, at
home and Gary M. Winchilla along with his wife Jennifer of Pen Argyl; Grandchildren, including Sarah, Natalie and
Robert Aaron Winchilla; Nathaniel, Garrett and Kaitlyn Winchilla; Several nieces and nephews; former neighbors
and dear friends.
Per her previous request, funeral services for Mrs. Winchilla will be held privately and at the convenience
of her family from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with no
formal visitation.
Interment will be next to her husband in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery,
Lake Street, Dallas where the Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor and Professor Raymond Mastroberte, cantor,
will offer the Rites of Committal.
Words of comfort and remembrance are encouraged to be shared with Monica’s family here on her memorial page.  Thank You.
