Mrs. Olga Lynn (Paris-Torres) Manik, 81, a resident of Pittston Township, passed into eternal life peacefully and most unexpectedly New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1st, in the comfort of her residence.
Born on Saturday, February 19, 1944 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mrs. Manik was one of six children and the only daughter to the late Rosaidio and Olga Vargas-Torres.
She was educated in the San Juan schools prior to her family's relocation to the mainland United States; settling in New York City. Later, she would enhance the knowledge she received by attaining an associate’s degree from the Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke.
In her youth and having a keen sense of finance, Mrs. Manik was employed as a section supervisor for banks in Manhattan borough of New York City. After meeting her beloved husband Mr. Milan A. Manik, the couple relocated to the Wyoming Valley, making their familial roots in Pittston Township. It was here she would eventually raise her family of four children. This, however, did not occur until Mrs. Manik continued to contribute to the local workforce by becoming an office manager for the U.G.I. Utilities Corporation.
Following her employment, Mrs. Manik took great pride in her role as homemaker, mother and grandmother; titles she cherished until her passing. She loved to cook and feed her growing family. Enjoying life and family, her home was made sweeter by the beautiful sound of her singing voice or dancing in the house with her beloved husband Milan. She had an affinity for her pet birds and would likewise sing to them daily. This caused them to stir with delight and enhance the melodies echoed throughout the home.
Having a deep-rooted devotion to her Roman Catholic faith, she held membership in Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Parish, Plains Township.
Mrs. Manik is remembered for her grace and unwavering strength. She lived her life with dignity and an appreciation for simple joys. She was a loving wife and mother; a cherished sister and devoted friend whose warm spirit and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Milan A. Manik on July 2, 2011. At the time of Mr. Manik's passing, the couple shared thirty-four years of married life together. She also bid farewell to a son, Reuben J. Martino on November 15, 2007 and a brother, Oscar.
Left to cherish all the memories they keep of her are her children; Nanci Paris of Florida; Kristofer Joseph Manik of Wilkes-Barre and Anton M. Manik along with his fiancé, Heather Commiso of Wyoming; Three grandsons, Dominic Isaah, Lucius and Roman Manik; Brothers, including Rudy Vargas and his wife Francia of Orlando, Florida; Orlando Torres, also of Florida; Freddie Torres of Wilkes-Barre and Richard Vargas of California; Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Manik will be conducted on Thursday, January 8, 2026 with her Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Parish, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township. The Reverend John C. Lambert, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow next to her husband in Sacred Heart of Jesus Slovak Roman Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.
Relatives and friends may join the Manik family from 8:45 a.m. until the times of her funeral Mass directly at church.
