Robert Moss Obituary

Mr. Robert L. Moss, 97, a longtime resident of North Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully into Eternal Life while in the care of Allied Services Hospice Center, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, following a recent illness.

Born on Tuesday, December 7, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of five children to the late Marvin and Florence (Spencer) Moss.  Educated in the back mountain schools, he was a graduate of the former Kingston Township High School.

Following his formal education, Mr. Moss enlisted with the United States Army and proudly served our country during the Second World War in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.  At the time of his Honorable Discharge from military duties on January 1, 1947, he earned the rank of Sergeant.

Until his retirement, Mr. Moss and his late wife, the former Ethel Ann Daniels, owned and operated Moss' Fruit Basket on North River Street in Wilkes-Barre for several years.

Prior to that, he began his career in produce working as a truck driver for the former Thomas C. Thomas Company of Wilkes-Barre for a number of years.

A skilled craftsman, Mr. Moss enjoyed wood working and making a variety of crafts out various species of lumber.  He thoroughly loved tending to his seasonal gardens over the years in his own hothouse which he constructed.  In his spare time, he was an avid bowler and played on several area leagues.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ethel Ann on October 27, 2017.  At the time of Mrs. Moss' passing, the couple shared 69 years of married life together.  Most recently, he bid farewell to his son, Mr. Robert A. Moss, a well known and respected woodworker on January 16, 2023.  He was also previously preceded by siblings Lawrence Moss, Lorene Berman and Frances Dennis.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sallie Moss of Wilkes-Barre; Daughter-in-Law, Charlene Moss of North Wilkes-Barre; Grandchildren; including Amy S. Elgonitis and her husband Leonard; Robert C. Moss and his wife Gwen and Lindsay M. Sadowski and her husband Tristan.  Great-grandchildren, Brandon and his wife Lawren - Alyssa - Paige - Landon - Harper and Everly;  Great-great grandchildren; Brielle, Jacob and Payton; his sister, Mrs. Lois Schumacher of Kingston; along with several nieces, nephews, former patrons and dear friends.

Memorial funeral services for Mr. Moss will be conducted on Wednesday evening, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc., 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Reverend Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor of Corpus Christi and Saint Barbara Parishes, will serve as celebrant and homilist for the Liturgy of the Word.

Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 1594 South Main Street, Hanover Township.
