Robert Pauley Obituary

Mr. Robert John Pauley of Shickshinny Lake fell asleep in the Lord Saturday, November 8, 2025 while in the care of the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre. He became ill shortly after the death of his sister Janet, almost two weeks prior on October 27th.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, January 19, 1936, he was a son to the late Stephen and Ann Andrasko Pauley. His father was a well-known and beloved cantor/choir director of Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre and Robert’s clear tenor voice was cherished.

Educated in the city schools, he was a 1954 graduate of the former James M. Coughlin High School and the former Wilkes College, where he excelled in science and placed first in a citywide math test. After teaching high school math in New Jersey, he enlisted in the Army Missile School at Fort Bliss, Texas. In addition to guard duty and other soldierly tasks, he planned educational seminars for his fellow soldiers. Once he was ordered to present the speech given by the Russian Prime Minister Nikita Khrushchev to the troops.

After his military discharge, he worked as a systems analyst for the Navy and the Defense Department. He experienced the development of computer science from punch cards to wall-sized machines to modern systems. With several colleagues, he formed the systems analysis company, Pinkerton Computer Consultants Inc. in Philadelphia. They had so little money that they almost closed down. Now the company is an international organization that employs 1100 people.

Robert was a caring son, grandson, brother, nephew and uncle. He always found time to take his father fishing and mushroom picking and drove his family on cross-country and Canadian trips. Ricketts Glen was his favorite spot to hike and forage with his brother Jerry. He loved sharing his collections and artifacts with his little nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janet, his brother Jerome and brother-in-law Robert McGuire.

He is survived by his sisters Andrea McGuire and Anita (Bill) Leonard, aunt Barbara (Tony) Rasimas and sister-in-law Joan Pauley. He was a loving “Uncle Bobby” to Maryanne Blake, Amanda (Ethan) Showers, Christopher (Allyson) Pienta, Tony C. Rasimas, Sharon (Jim) Battles, Gillian Murray, Kathryn (Ronan) Murray, Alexandra(Jim) Swope, Anora Swope, JJ Swope, Stephen M. Pauley, Michael (Caity) Pauley, Katharine Leonard, Sandra (Ian) Brunner, Sylvia Brunner and Mary Victoria (Kyle) Leonard.

He was very generous to his family and many charities. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Feed the Hungry (Ukraine Refugees), the Weinberg Food Bank or the American Red Cross.

Funeral services for Mr. Pauley will be conducted on Friday, November 14th with the Office of Christian Burial at 12 noon in Holy Assumption of Saint Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.  The Very Reverend Michael Kerestes, pastor will serve as celebrant assisted by Professor Raymond Mastroberte, cantor.  Interment will be in the family lot of the parish cemetery, Lake Street, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join the Pauley family for visitation and shared remembrances Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Liturgy directly at church.
